I met Ivey + Josh in college in Nashville. They moved to New York a few years ago and have built the most cozy life since. Individually and collectively, these two are incredibly creative. From music to videography, interior design to photography – I would trust these two in any creative scenario.
Photographing creatives can be intimidating. Whenever I’m working with someone in the arts, I fear that they are judging me and my process. I know this isn’t always the truth, but there can be an unspoken pressure. With Ivey + Josh, I didn’t feel that one bit. I trusted that they trusted me as we strolled their evening walk route in Prospect Park.
The park was crowded, but no one seemed to mind the shutter on my weighty medium format camera – Contax 645. That’s one thing that I really love about New York – seeing people create, and do all sorts of things, in public is the norm. We weren’t the only crew taking advantage of the setting sun in Brooklyn.
This gallery ended up being a mixture of medium format and digital – SonyA7riv. I had an 80mm on the Contax and a 35mm on the Sony. I ended up using both Fuji (rip) + Portra as my film stocks. As soon as I got back to Nashville, I shipped the film off to the lab I have been using this last year – Photovision. Once the scans hit my inbox, I shed a tear or two of joy.
The colors of Portra with the bokeh of the Contax is just *chef’s kiss.* Since hybrid shooting, I upload my scans to Lightroom as a reference for editing the digital files. This seems to work well for now. I will most likely create a preset for personal use as I grow used to the film colors, but for now, I’m enjoying the tweaking process.
Ivey + Josh made this shoot so easy. It felt like a walk in the park with friends 🙂
